A former auditor for a Kansas City nonprofit pleaded guilty Monday to engaging in four separate embezzlement schemes.
Tonya A. Topel of North Kansas City pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Kansas City to charges of wire fraud and aggravated identity theft. Topel admitted that she embezzled more than $277,000 from Construction Benefits Audit Corp. and that she spent it on such things as trips to Hawaii and the Bahamas, tickets to area sporting events and a 2014 Ford Mustang.
